Do You Want to Write 12 Picture Books in 12 Months? | Learn More!

12 x 12 June 2022 Check-In!

Here we are halfway through 2022. I did not write a new draft this month, but I did revise a couple in preparation for some workshops I’m signed up for. I intend to make July a “new draft” month.

Tell us YOUR progress. Did you complete a draft and/or revision in June? Let us know in the Rafflecopter and in the comments. June Featured Author Elisa Boxer is offering a choice of either a signed copy of any one of her books, or a 30-minute ask-me-anything chat as a prize to our June check-in winner. Thank you, Elisa!

Here’s what you need to do to check in for a chance to win:

  1. See the Rafflecopter widget at the end of this post.
  2. Click on the “Comment on Elisa’s post” button. Commenting on Elisa’s post is mandatory for this giveaway and you can enter the Rafflecopter even if you didn’t write a draft this month. Click ENTER.
  3. If you haven’t commented on Elisa’s post yet, go to the post here to comment. Then come back to this post to enter the Rafflecopter.  (Commenting won’t enter you in the drawing automatically, you must enter the Rafflecopter by following step 2.)
  4. Click on the “Wrote a PB Draft” button. This will ask if you completed a PB draft in June. If you did, click ENTER, if not, click cancel and move on to the next step.
  5. Click on the last “Revised a PB Draft” button. This will ask if you revised a PB in June.  If you did, click ENTER. If not, click cancel.
  6. That’s it! There is no overall submit button or email confirmation. Rafflecopter will track your points. (The top of the Rafflecopter will say X/3 with X being the number of entries you currently have in the drawing.)

Here’s a video tutorial on the forum to walk you through these steps as well. Click here for the monthly check-in tutorial.

You have until midnight Eastern on July 5th to enter your results. Rafflecopter will draw a winner and it will be announced on the blog on July 6th.

Remember, badges are not awarded automatically and must be requested in the forum. If you haven’t requested your June 2022 badges yet, you may do so HERE. Not sure how to request a badge? Check out this tutorial.

  1. June was a crazy month of events and family get togethers, but with the critiques of some very helpful friends I was able to revise and move forward with their helpful ideas and suggestions.

  2. I did manage to write a new draft along with revising other drafts. It was a productive month.

  3. June was productive for me. I had some deadlines set in order to have work ready for critique. I completed and polished a draft and made it ready for submission. Then I went back to an old manuscript and began the revision process, all while teaching summer school! Feeling accomplished.

  4. I’m not scared to write sh#@%y first drafts but the one I bushwhacked my way through yesterday was my worst yet. For real. And so long. So horribly long. It was so painful I gave myself a cookie afterwards as consolation.

  5. Honestly, the January 6 hearings and the SCOTUS rulings have had me riveted and overwhelmed. My weekly critique group has felt the same. I’ve just been trying to walk and do yoga and cook and work in the garden to keep my calm. But I am thinking all the time and reading. I did get revision done this month so that is something. Hugs, all. you are awesome and your voice matters.

  6. I did write a new draft and do one revision but have been second guessing the new draft so will definitely be revisiting it soon!

  7. June 2022 was an amazing month for writing and revision. I have two full manuscripts ready, or as ready as they will be today. Tomorrow they may be revised again. Heh. I’m excited to be a member of 12 x 12 and know it has put me on track to becoming a better writer. Thank you 12 x 12.

  8. I’ve been adding new bits and pieces in the form of stanzas and research to an idea started last year! I’ve found that if I do a little bit on it each day it’s more manageable. I hope this counts as something new since it’s starting to take shape.

  9. I wrote a manuscript and revised another. I also entered to win a mentorship (didn’t get it – but it was a good challenge for me to put myself out there!) I also saw that a childrens magazine was taking submissions, so I buckled up and submitted a few shorted pieces to them!

  10. June was good to me! I won a critique from @6ladies&amanuscript for the #KidLitZombieWeek pitch event. I also revised and revised! Looking forward to the next 6 mos. of 2022!

  11. I had a massive WFH rewrite in June that kicked my butt, so I was not as productive with my own work as I wanted to be. 🙁 But I revised a couple of mss; one still has a long way to go (according to my writers’ group), while I’m ready to send the other to agents. Oh, I did get a short nonfiction piece (memoir) in a journal/anthology in my state, so that was good news.

  12. I enjoyed writing a new draft manuscript, writing half a new draft, and revising a manuscript. Thank you 12X12 for keeping me motivated, and in touch with such a beautiful community.

  13. Thanks for all you do to encourage us and give us great webinars for learning and improving our work.
