Do You Want to Write 12 Picture Books in 12 Months? | Learn More!

12 x 12 July 2020 Check-In!

Hellooo everyone! Here we are, another month under our belts for 2020. I did not write a new draft in July, but still had a creative and productive month, especially relative to all other months in 2020. 😉 I revised last month’s draft a couple of times per my agent, I took an AMAZING 5-day graphic novel course with Matt Phelan, and I am working with my agent and editor to get my PB bio ready to go to sales & acquisitions. Whew!

Tell us your progress. Did you complete a draft and/or revision in July? Let us know in the Rafflecopter and in the comments. July Featured Author Carrie Finison is offering a free picture book critique to one lucky 12 x 12 member!

Thank you, Carrie!

  1. July was another slow month but I did write one draft of a new STORYSTORM idea as well as revised an older STORYSTORM manuscript.

  2. A big thanks to Julie and Kelli for doing all you do for us! I’m learning so much and recognize how busy you two must be keeping up with all the work on our behalf.

  3. July was intense, but I wrote a draft and revised. I participated in #PBChat. I didn’t win, but I’m moving forward to a new month of learning and doing!

  4. I’ve managed another first draft this month which I’m pleased about and several revision – some successful, others still some way to go. I participated in #PBFest and am looking forward to working with some fellow rhymers as a result. And I also participated in #PBChat Mentorship Programme – didn’t hook a mentor, but was selected as a runner up and am chuffed to be getting a full MS critique as result. Also getting used to wearing a face mask when out and about, which is a definite plus! Keep safe everyone and keep on writing!

  5. I have been struggling with a revision on a middle grade manuscript. I need to hang out with some of the youth I know, but due to social restrictions I can’t spend time with them. They are the best teachers of both plot and voice. I miss them.

  6. July wasn’t very productive for me initially. There were too many distractions. By the last week my inspiration was back and I managed to complete one rough draft and did a revision on a previous draft. I’m trying to keep the momentum going.

  7. July has been a busy month for revising. I am taking a biography class and it is helping a lot of things click with a number of projects. I have kept up virtual meetups with my critique group, participated in a virtual book launch this week for Rob Sander’s “Mayor Pete” and my agent James McGowan on 12×12, and the webinar, and now SCBWI’s Summer Spectacular. I am enjoying writing and learning. It will be tougher in a few weeks when my kids start virtual learning again.

  8. I’m pretty sure I didn’t write a new draft, but …what happened in July? Was July a thing? I’ll have to make up for it in August!
